You’ll waltz through the solar system, visit an alien-filled cantina on the outskirts of space, sneak aboard an evil ship, and help save the galaxy by recovering the legendary Dilithium Nutcracker!

Enjoy and dance along to favorite themes from Star WarsStar Trek, and of course, music from The Nutcracker ballet, performed live by the 75-piece San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the Official Band of San Francisco!

Part comedy musical, part dance-it-yourself ballet, and part symphonic concert, Nutcrackers in Space features all of the holiday fun and tradition you’ve come to expect from Dance-Along Nutcracker.

Performers & Cast

San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band

Founded in 1978 by Jon Sims at the height of Anita Bryant’s anti-gay crusade and credited as the first openly-gay music organization in the world, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band has inspired the formation of many LGBTQ+ choruses and performing troupes world-wide. Named the “Official Band of San Francisco” in 2018, the band has promoted visibility and built understanding between gay and non-gay communities through public musical performances for over 40 years.

Each year, the band presents its award-winning Community Concert Series, its beloved fun-filled holiday production, Dance-Along Nutcracker, and performs at numerous parades and civic events throughout the Bay Area. Zelda Koznofski is a singer/composer/actor. With SF theater troupe Thrillpeddlers, she performed in Cockettes revivals & Grand Guignol adaptations. In collaborations with immersive theater company Third Cloud From the Left, she composed songs for an original musical. Zelda currently records and releases music with band Gelb Rot Blau and performs at SF nightclub Oasis in drag parodies and musicals. Favorite roles include Judy Garland in Tuck’n’ Roll Players’ Club Inferno, Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in Star Trek Live, Giles in Buffy Live: Once More With Feeling, and, of course, anytime she is lucky enough to play Clara or Fritz in San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band’s Dance Along Nutcracker productions. Dee Nathaniel has performed in the Bay Area for nearly 8 years with various troupes including Ham Pants Productions and Thrillpeddlers. She’s very excited about her fourth performance in Dance-Along Nutcracker. She was recently featured in the sketch comedy show Edna in a Bottle and will be featured in the social justice drag show Palace of Trash.

Cameron Eng has performer, designed, and produced in the Bay Area for 15 years to create theater, film, haunted houses, and events with companies such as Impossible Productions, Foul Play Productions, and the Thrillpeddlers.

Robert Molossi is a San Francisco native who cut his acting-teeth by performing skits and mini-musicals for family and friends. Mr. Molossi attended San Francisco State University and lived, performed, and studied in New York City. Robert recently played Mr. Paravicini in Agatha Christi’s, The Mouse Trap and Jemy in Incidents in the Wicked Life of Moll Flanders for Ross Valley Players; Malcom Drake in Charles Busch’s, Red Scare on Sunset at the New Conservatory Theater; and Eugene in Box Car Theater’s Speakeasy. Additional credits include Absolutely Fabulous Live and Stale Magnolias at the Oasis; Charles Ludlam’s Camille and Joe Pintauro’s Wild Blue at Theater Rhinoceros. A newbie to the cast of Dance-Along Nutcracker, Robert is delighted to be working with this talented ensemble and to be a part of this San Francisco holiday treasure.

Chris is excited to join the Nutcracker team this year! A graduate of UCLA’s Theatre program and SF resident for 12 years, Chris has worked for multiple companies including New Conservatory, Playground, and Custom Made, where he is a company member. He won a TBA in 2015 for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in Avenue Q, which he performed four years in a row. Evan Kaminsky is a Bay Area actor, singer with Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco (LGCSF) and an artist. You may see him in local commercials and web videos. His first show in San Francisco was 24 years ago directed by our production director Allen Sawyer and our choreographer Marilyn Fowler! Evan is glad to part of the Dance-Along Nutcracker cast for the 3rd season stepping out of the drag closet for nearly a decade! By day he is SF’s Beauty and Grooming Guru and owner of Oui, Three Queens Productions (www.ouithreequeens.com). He offers makeup artistry, men’s grooming and waxing services for all genders and bodies. “The best bear, to make you bare (down there)!”

Randy Blaustein is thrilled to once again be performing in the Dance-Along Nutcracker; last year was her first time, as an ensemble member. Randy has performed in theatrical productions in Provincetown, MA & New York City, most notably as the Bearded Lady in John Vaccaro’s, “La Fin du Cirque,” at La MaMa. Since relocating to the Bay Area, Randy acted in the Dyke Drama Festival; performed with the Citizen Kings Drag King Troupe; AbFab Live, Season 1; numerous Peaches Christ Productions & other shows at the DNA Lounge & Oasis with the dance troupe, Sexitude. Randy has also been a back-up performer for Drag Queens in numbers at the DNA Lounge & Oasis. When not on a stage, Randy can be found at the happiest place in the world, aka the Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center.

Alix Feinsod has been performing in musicals around the Bay Area all her life with Stagedoor, YMTC, The Marsh, and The Thrillpeddlers. She also writes plays for her students to perform and has designed costumes for the Magic Theater and other companies. Alix is excited to be in her first Dance-Along Nutcracker – and her favorite theater memory is singing “Popular” in a school play as a kid!

Stephanie Richardson is a trombonist with the Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band and serves as the band’s Staff Production Manager. Previously, she acted and sang in 2018 Dance-Along Nutcracker: Clara Potter and the Elder Baton and is excited to be producing Nutcrackers in Space this year! By day, she’s a TK-8 district music teacher in Brisbane, CA where she manages the district’s choral and wind band programs and recently started a string program. She also produces and directs the school district’s annual musicals. Stephanie is an avid singer and dancer whose favorite hobby is dragging friends to karaoke.

Marilynn Fowler is the choreographer for 2019 Dance-Along Nutcracker

Marilynn Fowler returns for her fifth season choreographing Dance-Along Nutcracker. She began dancing simultaneously with Page Hodel’s Box Dance Troupe and Voice Farm’s Oblong Rhonda. Her choreography credits include The Cool Ones, Way Out West, Hillbillies on the Moon, Rocky Horror Superstar, Rocket Girl, License to Kiss, The Untamed Stage, Club Inferno, and Cyberotica. She has worked with the Sick & Twisted Players, the Tuck & Roll Players, Artfull Circle Theatre, Teatro Zinzanni, the Thrillpeddlers, and countless drag luminaries. Her dance inspirations are James Brown and Ann-Margret.

Todd Young is working on original art and props for 2019 Dance-Along Nutcracker

Todd Young is thrilled to be working with the Dance-Along Nutcracker for his fourth year, creating original Art Props he is well known for throughout the Bay Area. This year was his busiest with two solo art shows, working with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on their wimples of the world show, and being chosen as one of the designers for Project Nunway 10. He is also internationally known for his security gate installations in Hayes Valley as TheGateGuySF.

Jerry Majors Patterson is the costume designer

Ever since her Mom told her in 1973 that “Halloween is only once per year”, Jerry has been working to change that. Where other people see trash, Jerry sees interesting materials and shapes that can be used to make great costumes. Her Rat Costume took an award in the Novice Division at Westercon 66. And she choreographed and participated in a group costume called “Saucer Country” that won Best in Class, Master Division at LoneStarCon 3, the 71st World Science Fiction Convention. She even made a dress from black prototype shroud and wore it to her office holiday party. Jerry is the Flag Captain for the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Marching Band and this is her 8th Dance-Along Nutcracker.

Allen Sawyer has been writing and directing in San Francisco since 1982. He is author of many plays including Whatever Happened To Sister George, Gross Indulgences: The Trials Of Liberace, Hot Pants Homo, Senator Swish, and Lavender Lockeroom. He’s directed at many venues that are no longer with us: The Valencia Rose, Josie’s Juice Joint, The Artfull Circle, The Lavender Lounge, The Plush Room, The Razz Room, 450 Geary and the Cable Car Theatre; and some that are still going strong: NCTC, Feinstein’s At The Nikko and Oasis.

Appointed Artistic Director of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band in August 2013, Pete Nowlen is one of Northern California’s busiest musicians. He is the founder and driving force behind Sacramento’s VITA Academy, dedicated to revitalizing classical music through innovative community and audience engagement and school music programs. Other conducting credits includes the Sacramento, Auburn, Camellia, UCD and CSUS Symphonies and more than a dozen major productions ranging from La bohéme to the Rocky Horror Show. Pete was a member of the French horn section of the Sacramento Symphony for 10 years. He has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, Opera, and Ballet Orchestras, served as co-principal hornist of the International Orchestra of Italy, and has been a prize winner and finalist in international solo competitions.
